This video demonstrates the operation of the keyboard mechanism of the ASR 33 Teletype. When a key is pressed one from each pairs of bars under it raises and the other is depressed. The ends of the bars activate contacts which encode the character. Another key can't be pressed until the keyboard is reset by the mechanism at the rear. This is normally done by a linkage from the main teletype mechanism.
