Capacitors

• Capacitors deteriorate with usage or just time
• Primary failure modes loss of electrolyte and deterioration of dielectric.
• Aluminum Electrolytic dielectric can be reformed. Some disagreement on need and usefulness. I reform large capacitors.
• Never had problems with hermetic wet tantalums that were also used
• Too old to have dipped tantalums that like to go up in flames
• Replaced AC oil filled capacitor since failure spews boiling oil containing PCB’s.
