This is the 4k 12 bit words of core memory that is shared between the PDP-8 and LINC CPU. It is similar to the straight 8 memory backplane. It also has the teletype interface. The white foam between the card handles was put in to improve cooling. The fans blow into the cards from the right side. The foam makes sure the air makes it all the way across the cards. The RICM PDP-9 has foam installed in the memory section
