This is a closeup of the dropout on the first data track. You can see the amplitude trending down at the end of the track. Next is the track gap which should be blank. At the end of the gap the signal is weak decaying to close to zero. At the end the signal comes back. I haven't removed the platter to see the damage. This would be more damage than the small pits seen in the picture.
