Below the power supply is an air filter. The filter is foam between two layers of aluminum mesh. The foam was turning to dust when I removed it leaving little bits under the machine. The foam seems to have gone bad in all the PDP-8's I have worked on. I blew the foam out with compressed air, brushed, washed until most of it was gone. Since the machine isn't going to be run that much I didn't worry about replacing the foam. Keeping it covered when not in use will keep more dust out than the filter will when running.
